Lab Technician
Job Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description Prepare clinical specimens for laboratory testing. Receive, accession, aliquot and process specimens. Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and assist in the validation of instruments. Take quality control measurements, including environmental, equipment/software, and product quality controls. Responsibilities + Prepare clinical samples and products for testing, including accessioning and processing, following laboratory protocols. + Set up instruments for automated laboratory tasks, including programming instructions, specimen and reagent placement, and labware. + Maintain instruments by replenishing reagents, cleaning, and performing other required actions. + Prepare reagents for the lab and change equipment supplies as needed. + Document and transcribe quality control measures, including environmental readings, equipment function checks, and isolation quality control. + Train back-up staff as necessary and recommend changes for better workflow. + Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or Laboratory Director, including responding to emergency staffing situations. + Maintain sample inventories, including receipt, processing, storage, and disposal of samples when necessary. + Update computer databases for sample storage and fix errors in data entry. + Observe and support good health and safety practices. + Strictly observe privacy and security-related policies to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information. Essential Skills + Minimum of 2 years of college education in biology or related field plus 3 years of laboratory experience, or 4 years of college education plus 1 year of laboratory experience. + Hands-on experience with sample handling, quantitative chemical analysis, enzyme assays, and other complex procedures. + Knowledge of computer use, including moderately advanced Microsoft Excel. + Experience operating laboratory instruments such as automated measurement instruments. + Critical thinking and ability to implement corrective actions when needed. + Ability to understand and apply laboratory policies and procedures, and adhere strictly to established protocols. + High attention to detail and ability to handle large numbers of samples accurately. + Effective communication skills in spoken and written English with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with handling biohazardous material. + Experience with pipetting and specimen processing. + Ability to complete basic decontamination and sanitation. + Some type of education in a scientific field, with classes taken at a community college or technical school. + 1 year plus of experience within a lab setting. Work Environment The work being completed is saving people's lives across the entire community. The lab supports hospitals in the Bay Area. The team is made up of 11 Lab Techs, 1 Lab Assistant, and 3-4 CLSs. The shift is Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, with rotating Saturdays after a 3-month training period. The lab environment can be cold. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
