**Job Summary**
The Shcheglovitov Lab in the Department of Neurobiology invites applications from qualified individuals to fill a lab technician position. The lab technician will be responsible for working with different types of cultured human cells, including induced pluripotent stem cells, neurons, and astrocytes. Additional responsibilities include performing basic research experiments using PCR , qRT- PCR , IHC , and WB, assisting with ordering and preparing materials and reagents, and maintaining lab spaces clean and organized.

**Essential Functions**
1. Work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Available to work some weekends.
3. Perform tests and procedures using sophisticated laboratory equipment.
4. Have skilled hands, be technically precise and meticulous with experimental details.
5. Identify key protocols, follow or modify them if necessary, and apply these methods to meet our lab’s specific needs.
6. Write new protocols and SOPs.
7. Make statistical calculations, analyze data, and prepare reports summarizing results.
8. Supervise animal care and research; keep track of mouse colony, perform minor animal surgery, and collect animal tissues for experiments.
9. Clearly communicate with lab members in a friendly, knowledgeable, accurate, and timely manner.
10. Monitor and purchase laboratory supplies and materials. Must be able to seek out and negotiate competitive quotes for reagents and supplies.
11. Keep research spaces clean and organized.
12. Excellent understanding of research ethics.
**Problem Solving**
This position assists senior laboratory personnel in planning methods and techniques. Work requires exercising independent judgment and basic theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. This position may include limited supervision of entry-level laboratory personnel, who may refer sensitive or unusual situations to the incumbent. If incumbent cannot find a resolution, the situation is referred to the supervisor.
Work is performed in accordance with the supervision of senior laboratory personnel and through communication with the superior.

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils ( _there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids_ ), hazards ( _includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals_ ).
Seldom: Exposure to animals.

**Minimum Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
