Lab Operations Supervisor

As the Laboratory Operating Supervisor, you will be asked to oversee laboratory operations to ensure that the activities of each technical department provide quality and efficiency through the effective supervision of staff. It promotes a positive, team-spirited, customer-focused image. Assists the Laboratory Director with tasks related to the general operation of the laboratory.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Supervises (Manages) the daily operational activities of the laboratory.
+ Forecasts needs, sets priorities, and effectively uses financial and human resources.
+ Communicates effectively with Section Supervisors and collaborates on department goals. Guides others to work toward common objectives. Develops cooperation and teamwork between sections.
+ Promotes and monitors all aspects of sectional/departmental QM/QC programs.
+ Ensures up-to-date regulatory compliance for CAP, TJC, OSHA, FDA, DPH. Ensures all required renewals, questionnaires and staff certifications are current.
+ Oversees all Quality Management activities and AOP initiatives. Monitors timely completion and reporting to leadership and staff. Updates outlines and indicators annually in compliance with the College of American Pathology (CAP).
+ Prepares, maintains and ensures the accuracy of all department reports, including those required for regulatory compliance, and quality, or ad hoc.
+ Maintains adequate inventory levels for all sections on all shifts. Cooperates with Materials Management to ensure minimization of emergency stocking.
+ Participates in the selection, training and evaluation of laboratory staff. Initiates or recommends personnel actions, as appropriate. Conducts employee onboarding and orientation.
+ Trains students and new staff and evaluates entry-level competencies.
+ Observes staff performance, performs competency checks, acts as a coach, counsels staff, completes performance previews, and evaluates assigned staff within prescribed timeframes. Sets performance goals.
+ Identifies and evaluates issues. Reaches sound conclusions. Generates alternatives and understands consequences. Makes accurate and timely decisions.
+ Conducts or participates in regular department meetings. Maintains up-to-date SOP's and monthly minutes of meetings with assigned staff.
+ Maintains employee files with regulatory requirements and up-to-date licensure.
+ Oversees the accuracy and completion of weekly payroll records. Approves weekly payroll.
+ Identifies needs or opportunities for professional development of new or existing staff. Provides staff training or assigns qualified trainers. Ensures compliance with all continuing education requirements.
+ Creates a schedule for all laboratory staff (100+), and posts three (3) weeks in advance. Review the workload on a continuous basis and adjust the schedule accordingly. Manages sick calls, maintains adequate staffing levels. Evaluates low workload volume periods and responds appropriately, delegating alternative duties or releasing staff, as necessary.
+ Monitors the MCN hospital policy manual for the laboratory, ensuring compliance with revisions. Reviews annually per CAP compliance. Acts as a resource to develop, promote and interpret policies.
+ Monitors the budget, taking measures to avoid waste of time and/or resources. Continuously seeks more efficient and cost-effective methods.
+ Assists the Laboratory Director with budget oversight and may provide input during the annual budget process. Make recommendations as appropriate.
+ Participate in hospital committee work as directed by the Laboratory Director.
+ Accepts administrative responsibility for the entire laboratory when assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
+ High school diploma.
+ Certification from an accredited agency for Phlebotomy.
+ Data entry experience
Preferred:
+ Formal college course work
