Lab Coordinator - Mechanical Engineering

Carnegie Mellon University is currently searching for Lab Coordinator to join the Mechanical Engineering department.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by assisting the Director of Operations in the management of MechE's collaborative lab facilities in Scaife Hall and Hammerschlag Hall.

This position supports the research of all collaborative faculty research labs, including faculty, postdocs, and grad students, by providing a safe and smooth functioning lab, maintaining and managing equipment repairs, coordinating training on techniques and on equipment, and restocking of common lab supplies, etc. In addition, this position will provide support for cutting edge Mechanical Engineering research, including work with cell cultures, robotics, neural implants, advanced thermal/fluid experimentation, and with sophisticated equipment that can cost in the millions.

Core responsibilities include:

Administering and coordinate the technical activities, educational programs, and infrastructure related to the operation of the specialized laboratories.

Developing and implementing Laboratory(s) policies and procedures, managing, and coordinating operational policies and procedures, coordinating with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services.

Maintaining quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards and ensure maintenance of the facilities according to Good Laboratory Practices.

Planning and scheduling work for the group to ensure proper distribution of assignments as well as adequate manning, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Assuring that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and equipment specific requirements.

Other duties as assigned.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytical skills

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

3-5 years of research lab experience required.
