About the Opportunity

The Lab Assistant II plays a vital role in implementing the laboratory's mission, goals, and objectives by embodying the lab's vision and values. This position supports laboratory operations by performing various technical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include handling biological specimens, assisting with laboratory procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

We operate Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., with no weekends or late shifts. With two specialized GI Pathologists on-site Monday through Friday, you'll have expert support. Please note that the current hourly wage for this role is between $25.00/hr. - $29.00/hr. Our team is dedicated on being competitive with the local market by consistently doing market studies to ensure fair wages! Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Meets all responsibility requirements established by management. Accessions laboratory specimens of all types including receiving and labeling. Verifies laboratory specimens meet Covenant Pathology Services requirements for acceptable specimens. Keys patient demographic and specimen information for all specimen types into the laboratory information system. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment related to job responsibilities. In applicable laboratory locations, processes cytology specimens, cell blocks and histology blocks and prepares slides for FISH specimens. Maintains accurate logs, QA/QC records, supply levels and inventory. Files and pulls blocks and slides. Distributes final pathology reports. Receives laboratory telephone calls. Scans and files documents as needed. Performs related clerical and cleaning duties. Performs other duties as assigned by superiors.

About the Candidate

Qualified to conduct high complexity testing which includes grossing per CLIA regulations: Associate degree in laboratory science OR at least 60 semester hours with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology AND 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Must be able to type at least 40 wpm. Accuracy (in every facet) is a must. Laboratory and/or histology experience preferred. Must be able to function under time pressure. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Must be detail oriented.
