Lab Assistant

Primary Responsibilities: 

In house laboratory machines and tasks: 

Follow protocols for maintenance of all lab equipment. Including Catalyst, Procyte, I-Stat, SNAP Pro Analyzer, Vetstat, Coag Dx, Centrifuges, VCM, and Microscopes.  

Competently run dilutions and re-run lab work as necessary.  

Create blood smears and cytology slides. 

Work with Facilities Manager to ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.   

Inventory: 

Maintain proper levels of laboratory equipment. 

Monitor wants/need list of the laboratory. 

Maintain appropriate level of laboratory supplies when heading into weekend or holiday times. 

Put away and organize inventory as needed. Check invoices from orders as this is completed.  

Ordering:  

Work with inventory manager for weekly restocking of laboratory supplies.  

Organize inventory and invoices from orders.  

Maintain appropriate level of medications and pharmacy supplies when heading into weekend or holiday times.  

Work with inventory manager for weekly restocking.  

Organize inventory and invoices from orders 

General Tasks  

Ensure lab cleanliness and compliance with hospital hygiene protocols. 

Support all departments as needed with the processing of lab work. 

Promptly notify supervisors and relevant departments of urgent laboratory issues or equipment malfunctions. 

COMPENSATION:

This position has an initial hiring range of $18.00 to $24.00 per hour based on skillset and experience. We offer a competitive shift differential for team members working the hours of 6pm to 6am at $2.00 per hour on top of base pay along with competitive benefits, including continuing education, staff pet discounts, incentives for professional development, health insurance, and 401k.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  

Previous experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory setting is required. 

Familiarity with diagnostic laboratory procedures. 

Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

Strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Ability to act as a team player.  

Must be flexible, adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.  

Punctual and reliable.
