Job Description
The Lab Aide is responsible for greeting and reception of laboratory outpatients. Registers outpatients and OutREACH patients, orders laboratory tests and obtains proper documentation where required (ABN). Phones and faxes results to clients. Responsible for assistance in specimen processing in the Central Processing Area. May act as a courier on a temporary basis.
Essential functions:
Greeting laboratory patients and clients using AIDET principles.Interpretation of physician orders and accurately placing that order in Cerner system.Being aware of the current Medical Necessity requirements. Is knowledgeable in the use of the Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and its appropriate application during test order entry.Accurate patient registration and test order entry in the appropriate information system.Knowledge and use of the Document Imaging system to scan in and look up patient orders.Performing copying and faxing as needed.Assists in investigating reference laboratory specimen requirements for orders.Interacting effectively with patients and their physician's office.Assists patient in obtaining their laboratory test results and/or insuring that results are available to their physician by the next visit.Collects urine drug screens in the laboratory of Emergency Department. Perform Breath Alcohol tests in the laboratory or Emergency Department.The injection and reading of PPD.
