Major Responsibilities:
Reviews new student data sheet, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or patient file and identifies academic and behavioral strengths and deficits.Develops and delivers individualized coursework incorporating academic and behavioral strengths and deficits identified in the student data sheet, IEP or patient file.Participates in either the IEP or treatment plan process which includes representing school during meetings, writing reports to address academic and social/behavioral functioning, work/study skills, goal recommendations and completion/transition plans, and reporting plan results to the faculty.Evaluates students academically and behaviorally by preparing progress notes/reports per the annual schedule or followed treatment plan and reports as prescribed (Kradwell Teacher).Participates in intervention or treatment teams by identifying behavioral and emotional issues that interfere with student learning, recommending strategies to ameliorate behaviors, and modifying academic, behavioral or treatment plan/s.Administers and evaluates appropriate academic assessments per program requirement or as indicated.Acts as a liaison with student's home school; plans aftercare education as appropriate (Inpatient Teacher).Manages behavior in classroom using de-escalation techniques, following proper risk management procedures and seeks assistance when needed. Provides for the safety, security and confidential treatment of patients, guests and staff.Selects and orders instructional materials.Contacts parents of students: fosters positive relations with parents or guardians. Promotes the credibility, visibility and services of Kradwell or Ark/Odyssey School. Keeps team and principal informed of issues and events that affect the students, staff and school.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
