Principal Project Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work with low to medium complexity as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines. Each day, you will plan and execute work on a first-time right approach with customers. You will also showcase your expertise by displaying a clear understanding of sense of urgency and care in your own area of responsibility.You will be mainly accountable for:•\tWorking with the customer (while on-site) to identify opportunities to improve the customer’s operations and eliminate pain points.•\tPerforming field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and performing analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products.•\tPreparing material lists needed for service activity and ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are available and of appropriate quality for service activities.•\tTroubleshooting equipment/process failures, requesting proactive corrective actions, and making recommendations to avoid such issues in the future.

Qualifications for the role

You enjoy working with Variable Frequency Drives and Motors, PLCs, and hydraulic circuits and: You have 2 years of experience working on electrical equipment in an underground environment. Knowledge of Kiruna Trucks and ABB ACS800 VFDs is an asset.Highly adept in diagnosing basic feedback control signals, troubleshooting software and hardware (Variable Frequency Drive) issuesYou are passionate about technical problem solving, and are able to work in a multi-disciplined service environment often under pressure filled conditions.Degree in Industrial/construction electrician’s certificate of qualification (College Diploma or University Degree in electrical or instrumentation studies is an asset), an understanding of Electrical / Instrumentation Fundamentals and Basic Sciences (Pressures and Forces, Hydraulic and pneumatics, mathematics).You are at ease communicating in English and demonstrate good communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and speak effectively before customers or employees of the client organization.You hold a valid driver’s license and reside in the Greater Sudbury region.
