Length:  Term of positions is 24 weeks; full-time 40 hrs/wk

Location:  Durham, NC

Weekly Stipend: $600 Living Allowance + additional Housing Allowance of $200 (paid biweekly)

AmeriCorps Award: Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $3,447.50. (pre-tax).

Start Date:   Flexible start date by August 31st, 2024

 

Position Details

The Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) moves forward from the tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps to engage young people in conservation service projects through meaningful work on the land. Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) is an organization that is stemmed from the traditional Civilian Conservation Corps. CCNC works to engage young people in conservation service projects across North Carolina. These projects aim to be meaningful, respectful, goal oriented, and work for the betterment of the land and for the future of conservation.

CCNC, in partnership with Keep Durham Beautiful and the NC Resilience Service Network, is seeking 1 intern who will support Keep Durham Beautiful as they engage and activate various communities in Durham around creating environmentally just, resilient, and beautiful outdoor spaces.  

 

Position Responsibilities will include:

·        Outreach and Education in low-income & minority residential communities including building and maintaining relationships with community leaders (i.e., Merrick Moore, Braggtown, Hayti, Lyon Park, churches, universities, etc.)

·        Identifying private landowner tree planting sites and assisting groups in planning and executing small tree planting and tree care projects

·        Leading community groups and engaging youth in litter prevention and beautification service projects

·        Cultivating partnerships with Durham organizations for meaningful collaborative environmental justice project opportunities

·        Developing and publishing community outreach and educational materials and social media posts 

·        Representing Keep Durham Beautiful at community outreach events

·        Supporting the mission of Keep Durham Beautiful with additional work including coordinating material with Executive Director for grant applications; assisting in board meetings - including providing board training materials & follow-up with new resource developments; metrics and record-keeping; and volunteer tool management

Required Skills:

·        Experience with environmental education, public outreach, and youth engagement

·        Familiarity with the Durham community and experience working with BIPOC communities

 

Minimum Requirements:

·        Possession of a current valid driver’s license

·        Possession of a valid Social Security Card

·        Ability to pass a background check

·        Must be a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States

·        Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds

·        Personal transportation to get to and from duty station
