The Rocky Mountain Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to provide technical support in small arms design. Successful candidates will apply education in Mechanical Engineering to support diverse applied research in areas of small arms design and development, kinetic tool design and development, interior and exterior ballistic design, electromechanical systems, less-than-lethal systems, robotics, aiming and targeting systems, fire control systems, and related technology areas. Job activities as a Junior Mechanical Engineer:
Work as a team to understand project requirements and design hardware solutions to meet them Work as a team with mechanical and electrical engineering staff to design, fabricate, and test systems Develop fixtures and tools needed to build and assemble new hardware Test and troubleshoot mechanical subsystems to ensure compliance with system requirements Troubleshoot mechanical systems and help debug prototype assemblies Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions Assist in preparation of oral and written reports as necessaryPosition requirements:
Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and zero to two (0-2) years of experience in a related position Experience in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) Experience with mechanical prototyping including conventional subtractive machining, CNC machining, 3D printing, composites, and similar fabrication techniques Experience with mechanical tests including laboratory tests and field tests US Citizen; able to get a security clearance Able to lawfully possess and handle firearmsAdditional Skill Preferences:
Good verbal communications skills Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics and drawings Ability to create mechanical schematics and drawings Familiarity with small arms technologies and concepts Experience with precision mechanical measurement (calipers, surface plates, gauge blocks, feeler gauges, bore gauges, etc.) Familiarity with Solidworks CAD software Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis Familiarity with MS Office environment (Outlook, Excel, MS Word) Innovative, can-do mindset bringing new ideas to the tableCompany & Division Information:
