Junior Mechanical Designer (4 Month, Part-Time Contract – 20 hours per week)

Expected Hourly Rate: $32.43 to $46.85 per hour

In this role, you will:
Be responsible for the creation of technical drawings and specifications to support the implementation of Engineering Changes (ECs) on board Victoria Class Submarines. Design and develop solutions with a Mechanical focus for the integration of new sub-systems / components into existing systems. Undertake 2D and 3D modelling to support spatial integration of ECs. Create detailed manufacturing, pipe spool, assembly, and installation drawings. Develop knowledge of Defence Standards, Military Specifications, and other relevant guiding principles in the design and integration of mechanical systems. Participate in the development of innovative solutions to technical problems. Conduct onsite inspections/surveys of platform’s physical conditions and verify designs. Work closely with other technical disciplines to ensure coherency between deliverables. Update as-fitted technical drawings to reflect the final installed configuration. Liaise with subcontractors to ensure design for manufacture / installation. Maintain and prepare project documents as applicable. Conduct other duties as necessary.
The ideal candidate brings:
A College Technologist Diploma in a relevant field. The ability and aptitude to problem solve technical issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (knowledge in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a key asset). Familiar with ASME Y14 drawing standards (knowledge in CFTO drawing standards is a key asset). Familiar with drawing control workflow (knowledge of SolidWorks PDM an asset). Installation / integration design experience in a marine environment is an asset. You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
