Junior Environmental Sustainability Officer
Key Tasks Include:
Energy: Identify and implement energy-efficient technologies and practices, and monitor its application. Identify and implement energy technologies and practices that reduce use of and dependence on fossil fuels Water: Identify and implement solutions and practices to reduce and minimize water consumption, waste, and contamination, and monitor its application Waste: Identify and implement solutions and practices to reduce waste generation and improve recycling, and monitor its application Hazardous materials and contaminants: Identify instances of classified hazardous substances, and assist in finding solutions that reduce use where possible, develop practices for responsible use and disposal, and monitoring of above Procurement: Identify issues and opportunities in the company’s supply chain to Develop and maintain guidelines for sustainable procurement, work with suppliers to source environmentally friendly products and services, or to adapt procurement to lower environmental impact and monitor procurement practices. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental laws and regulations, especially European and similar regulations on electronic waste, battery waste, and packaging waste Sustainability Reporting and Communication: Report periodically to management on the company’s progress, performance, and issues relating to environmental sustainability. Requirements Include:
Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or related field 2+ years relevant experience Drivers License with own/ reliable transport Working onsite in an office environment Position requires independent analyses, communication and problem solving Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgement Knowledge Required:
Understanding of environmental systems, ecosystems, and the impacts of human activities on the environment Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and certifications such as ISO 14001, GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Concepts of corporate governance, ethical business practices, and community engagement Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, laws, and policies at local, national, and international levels Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, particularly in sustainability metrics such as energy usage, emissions, and waste management Awareness of emerging technologies and practices in sustainable development, such as circular economy models, renewable energy solutions, and green building practices
