Munich Re of Malta p.l.c. (MRoM) is a subsidiary of the Munich Re Group with a portfolio of more than € 4 billion premium and a corresponding large balance sheet. The book of business stems from group-internal retrocessions and third-party reinsurance in life, health, and non-life from markets all over the world, and is written in close cooperation with various units in the Munich Re Group. MRoM is a fast-growing, extremely efficient company looking for a qualified professional who is initiative-taking to support our Finance Team’s reinsurance accounting activities on a fixed term contractual basis from January 2025 until June 2026 (18 months).
The candidate for the Junior Accountant role works in close cooperation with local colleagues and the MR Group supporting departments. This role will focus primarily on payment processes and general accounting. The junior accountant will also develop expertise in the IFRS closing process over time and develop skills in reinsurance accounting and payments processing over time. The accountant will also support general banking and treasury operations, and other activities as assigned for back-up and cross training.
The successful candidate will be occupying a role that provides an excellent opportunity for development within the fields of treasury, IFRS close and reporting, and reinsurance in a first-class international organization. Internal and external training will be supported and provided where required.
The position is in Malta.
Your job:
• Support quarterly closing activities and financial reporting to the Munich Re headquarters and external local institutions for IFRS and Solvency II
• Maintenance of purchase ledger, processing of invoices
• Carry out cost analysis, general ledger reconciliation, and other accounting duties on various SAP based systems
• Technical reinsurance accounting
• Other general accounting duties assigned in cash operations, VAT taxes, fixed assets, or expense controlling related matters
Your profile
• Recently graduated from University or 1 to 2 years’ experience in accounting or in possession of, or in the process of obtaining an equivalent qualification such as ACCA
• Fluent business English (spoken and written)
• Willingness to learn and develop in the (re)insurance accounting field
• Precise way of working, pro-active and result oriented
• Confident personality and positive attitude
• Very good team player
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
• Insurance knowledge preferred
• Contribute to process improvement projects as part of the ongoing finance transformation efforts.
