Position Description
This Judicial Assistant position is a non-Civil Service position in the State Trial Courts, who serves as the primary administrative support in the office and performs the more advanced secretarial and administrative activities involved in processing legal documents and records. Performs other court-related duties as required.

Typical Duties
+ Knowledge of the legal system and the courts
+ Maintains strictest standards of confidentiality
+ Performs a variety of administrative tasks as needed for the Judge, including but not limited to processing mail, answering telephone calls, etc.
+ Schedules appointments/meetings for the Judge
+ Maintains the calendar of court dates, appointments, meetings, etc.
+ Maintains files and records and disseminates information as necessary
+ Types a variety of legal documents and correspondence
+ Performs clerical work, such as electronic filing of court orders and documents
+ Prepares courtroom for hearings and arranges exhibits, seating, and other physical details.
+ Monitors and operates courtroom recording and presentation equipment
+ Maintains evidence during trials or other court-related documents
+ Assists in the conducting of jury trials, including the supervision of jurors
+ Gives directions and provides other information to employees and the public
+ May prepare directives and correspondence
Minimum Qualifications
An Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Paralegal Certification from an accredited college, university or professional school is preferred. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a legal office or environment is preferred.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with attorneys, litigants, and the public
+ Ability to multi-task in a busy environment

+ Excellent written and verbal communications skills
+ Proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Employee must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
• Employees must comply with court confidentiality requirements, including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts.
• Employees of the Eighth Circuit Court are “at will” and can be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Final candidate is subject to a background check and subsequent favorable suitability determination.
