Job Description Summary

               

As a Journeyman Electrician, you will be responsible for supporting operations by maintaining electrical systems & equipment/machinery, conducting installations and repairs, and reading and understanding prints and schematics - all while helping us maintain high food safety standards.

This position requires long periods of standing, and repetitive use of hand/arms to use tools and supplies. Job tasks may occur in any area of the plant, require good physical stamina, and are labor intensive in an often fast-paced work environment. The electrical team is essential in assisting the business achieve its production goals.

Location: Taber, AlbertaFull-time, HourlySchedule: 12-hour shift schedule rotation (7:00-7:00) with an average of 42 hours per week. Rotates between day and night shifts. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.Reports to: Team Leader Electrical

As a Journeyman Electrician, you’ll…

Always maintain and promote safe work practicesDemonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Provincial Electrical Code.Have a working knowledge of all processing, and packaging equipment within our manufacturing environment.Perform electrical and technical inspection/repair/maintenance/installation of processing, packaging, and building systems within our manufacturing environment.Troubleshoot all electrical, PLC, and SCADA systems.Support Management and employees' efforts to optimize manufacturing & electrical efficiencies and promote continuous improvement.Work with Supervisory staff and safety committees to develop and implement safety improvements.Be a safety leader, and be able to coach others in all aspects of safe work.Have complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including the lockout-tag-out procedure.Understand and follow all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).Demonstrate within 30 days of job assignment, ownership of proper tools for the job.Provide mentoring & training for electrical team members, including apprenticeship program support.Complete the training program for this position, as outlined by the Team Leader Electrical.Fill out, maintain, and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.Ensure timely, accurate records are maintained (CMMS), including calibration recordsCommunicate with operators, sanitation leaders, and supervisors to keep abreast of downtime maintenance activitiesRemove any foreign material found during transfers and notify a supervisor immediately if glass or metal is found.Maintain sanitation in the work area as needed, and a clean shop area as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies).Notify supervisors and sanitation leaders when repair work in the production area is completed.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Provincial Journeyman certificate from college or technical school.3 – 5 years previous experience in a manufacturing environment is preferredAB PLC programming experience preferredIndustrial Instrumentation experience is preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups management, supervisor and fellow co-workers in organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry, geometry and mathematics required to calculate interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, lengths, volume, diameter, volts, ampere, horsepower, etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
