Jira Engineer

This company is looking for an experienced Jira Engineer to join their IT team and support their Government Partner. The Jira Engineer will configure, manage, and optimize our Jira environment to meet various project management and workflow needs. This role demands a deep understanding of Jira’s capabilities and the ability to customize it to fit our teams' specific requirements.

This position will be a 6-month contract to hire. The company is located in Reston, VA and will remain 100% remote.

What You Will Be Doing: Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, permission schemes, and notifications. Develop custom Jira plugins and scripts using Groovy or other scripting languages. Integrate Jira with other tools and systems (e.g., Confluence, Bitbucket, CI/CD tools). Provide support and training to end-users on Jira functionalities and best practices. Collaborate with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and implement solutions. Perform regular system audits and upgrades to ensure optimal performance and security. Develop and maintain documentation for Jira configurations and procedures. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Jira and its integrations. Stay current with Jira updates, new features, and industry trends to continuously improve our Jira environment. Configure and manage Confluence spaces, pages, and permissions. Integrate Confluence with Jira and other tools to enhance collaboration and documentation. Required Skills & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Must able to obtain a security clearance. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (as a Jira Administrator or Jira Engineer). Ability to write custom JQL (Jira Query Language). Proficiency in configuring Jira projects, workflows, and schemes. Experience with Jira plugin development and scripting (e.g., Groovy, Python, or Java). Familiarity with integrating Jira with other tools and systems. Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Desired Skills & Experience: Jira Administrator certification. Experience with Atlassian Cloud and Data Center environments. Knowledge of other Atlassian tools like Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo. Experience with database management and SQL. Understanding of ITSM and ITIL practices.
