Java Software Engineer

Overview

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including QA, DevOps, and PM to gather and analyze requirements, understand business needs, and translate them into efficient technical solutions. Act as a technical specialist for a portfolio of applications in the delivery of sophisticated concepts, principles, and methods.  Be responsible for detailed solution design of application components and interfaces.  Understand how business functions operate and how sector trends impact a client’s business. Apply a global and diverse perspective to problem solving.  Organize insights and define a logical flow to tell a story when presenting recommendations.  Design, develop and share reusable assets that can be readily applied to new projects.  Review and recommend improvements to existing system designs and engineering processes.  Perform quality checks on processes and delivered project artefacts.  Contribute to incremental upgrades and timely integration of application code changes and testing.  Mentor, train and guide junior developers, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices within the team.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s / Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or other related field.  At least 5 years of relevant experience as a Java Software Engineer and in Object-Oriented programming. Relevant experience developing RESTful API’s, using Spring framework, as well as implementing code to consume existing API will be a plus.  Experience in UI development using Angular.  Strong understanding of project lifecycles and methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and CI/CD processes. Hands-on experience with version control systems and preferably Git Solid understanding and working knowledge to both Relational & NoSQL Databases, preferably MS SQL Server and MongoDb. Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with both technical staff and application users in both Greek and English. Knowledge of build and tracking tools, such as Maven, Jira, Jenkins, Sonar.  Understanding of coding guidelines, patterns, and standards in software development. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues in applications.

The following will be considered a plus.

Experience in the Insurance or Banking sectors. Familiarity with Liquibase for database version control and migration management. Familiarity with cloud services (preferably Azure). Knowledge of application security best practices (such as OWASP).
