Japan Head of Communications

Your work will impact the way our stakeholders in Japan understand and learn about Spotify’s product offering, our local business and all news that is relevant for Japan.
We are now hiring for a new band member to lead Communications - Corporate, B2B, Consumer & Influencer PR - for Japan, a priority market in one of Spotify’s fastest growing regions. The successful candidate will be a strategic and a hands-on implementer, leading proactive and reactive communications across our earned and owned editorial channels. We are also looking for a strong storyteller who can demonstrate both traditional, as well as non-traditional channels to amplify the Spotify brand and apply perception to build FOMO with key audiences in the local market.
This role will be a direct report to Spotify’s Head of Communications for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (i.e. JAPAC & SAMEA), who is based in Singapore.What You'll DoLead both external and internal communications for Japan, covering all aspects of our business - including consumer, creator (music & podcasts), corporate, industry (music and advertising), crisis and employee commsRegularly engage with and drive consensus with team members across the business, including leading as trusted communications counsel for our Spotify Japan MD and local leadership, and more broadly to the global communications teamManage external agencies (across traditional PR and influencer), setting strategy while ensuring efficiencies of time and resources, and maximising business impact. Build and maintain strong relationships with key media and influencer contacts in the market, i.e. be the face of Spotify Japan to these targetsBe adept at managing multiple projects and engagements that focus on thought leadership and creating talkability for the brandWork across functional team members, global, regional and local, to ensure that messaging themes for Japan are consistent across all external facing channelsLeads editorial calendar and content production for Who You AreMinimum of 10+ years of relevant communications experience in media, digital, entertainment, tech or music industry comms in the Japan marketBusiness level written and spoken English and fluency in JapaneseConsistent track record of developing and driving strategic PR & influencer campaigns, with experience with creatively working with media and existing relationships with influencers/KOLs a plusMotivated self-starter with hands-on solutions-focused demeanor; happy to adopt a bit of uncertainty and be part of changeAbility to multitask and work in an extremely fast-moving industry and environment, without sacrificing attention to detailCollaborative individual who enjoys partnering closely across teams and departments to create and distribute the most impactful communications possibleStrong project management and agency leadership skills, with ability to balance short- and long-term prioritiesAbility to translate sophisticated concepts into clear communicationStrong strategic problem solver and resourceful problem-solverGreat teammate who thinks locally, regionally and globallyAbility to work across time zones and travel domestically and internationallyOf course, an ever-enthusiastic representative of the Spotify brand!Where You'll BeThis position will be based in Tokyo officeWe are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination.
