Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a qualified and experienced ITS Operations Engineer to support freeway- and arterial-focused ITS projects. The position is based in Southeast Michigan and will involve work out of both AECOM offices and client facilities. The idea candidate will need to be a professional, self-motivated, and resourceful individual with strong problem solving and communication skills, capable of effectively executing technical engineering tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and handle competing demands of multiple clients.
The position will focus on support for arterial and freeway ITS systems through operations and use of existing traffic signal systems, freeway ITS systems and equipment, and design and development for new systems including software suites, in-field equipment, and telecommunications systems. This position will contribute to our operations teams and will be expected to contribute to ongoing analysis and design projects in support of AECOM ITS initiatives.
This position is expected to begin immediately.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Design ITS infrastructure such as CCTV, vehicle detection, DMS, and communication networksPrepare construction phasing plans and develop maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviewsDevelop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimatesPerform traffic and ITS engineering studies, analyze roadway performance, and recommend operational improvementsAssist in the assessment and maintenance of traffic signal and ITS systems to meet system uptime goalsCollect and analyze traffic data from the field to evaluate system performance and support engineering decisionsCoordinate with other civil, electrical, and traffic teams to integrate ITS components into broader transportation projectsSupport emerging technology and systems engineering tasks on complex ITS projects spanning multiple transportation disciplinesQualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, traffic engineering, or appropriate disciplineTwo years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience designing highway/roadway systemsPrevious design experience on transportation projects including Schematic Development and Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E)Familiarity with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software programsFamiliarity with OpenRoads and/or Civil3D software programsProficiency in tools included in Microsoft Office SuiteStrong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work effectively under pressureExcellent communication and teamwork skills to support successful collaboration with diverse stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to develop technical reports, documents, client communication, and technical memorandaAbility to efficiently and effectively speak, read, and write on technical topics in the English languageFlexibility to successfully meet project deadlines and balance multiple client demandsAdditional InformationRelocation assistance is not available for this positionSponsorship is not available for this positionAbout AECOM
