Job Summary/Description:

WBRC, the Gray Media-owned Fox affiliate in Birmingham, AL, has an excellent career opportunity for an IT Specialist/Engineer. This exciting position is responsible for supporting all aspects of Broadcast, Network, and Computer operations, including ensuring the best video and audio signal quality is maintained throughout all broadcast computer and transmission systems. The engineer interacts daily with WBRC staff and will be responsible for following all FCC and Gray Media standards and guidelines. They must be a self-starter, and a team player who can navigate shifting priorities, drive a sense of urgency, and deliver industry-leading customer service.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

- Support engineering aspects of the technical facility including studio support, post-editing systems, field production support, and transmission of live or recorded events and programs
- Perform regular maintenance on broadcasting and computing systems, and implement changes, repairs, or upgrades as required to maintain peak system performance
- Must be able to read, edit, and explain schematic drawings, blueprints, and other vendor-provided support documents to implement critical engineering projects
- Ability to learn and implement new skills quickly and respond to changing priorities with a strong sense of urgency
- Support all aspects of breaking news gathering, severe weather, and new system integrations which may require working odd hours, weekends, and holidays
- Have a working knowledge of computer operating systems, updates, and network

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- SBE or IT certifications are a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of video/audio systems
- Working knowledge of news and television automation systems
- 1-2 years of professional IT experience preferred
- Ability to self-motivate and see projects through to completion
- Strong leadership and independent skills with an ability to thrive in high-pressure situations
