Release Train Engineers (RTE) support an Agile release train in optimizing the flow of value for a team of Agile teams following the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The RTE plays a critical role leading and driving program success. This includes working with technology leadership to build and leverage the team and release train capacity model, establishing and coaching the train on the application of objective metrics for evaluating delivery performance, supporting release train leadership in establishing a clear release train priority, and driving consistency and relentless improvement across the train's teams.

A Successful RTE ensures cohesion teams and drives effective delivery of value across the Agile Release Train (ART). S/he coordinates and facilitates events, integration, and delivery, at the program level to ensure team alignment and continuity. RTEs are responsible for scheduling and planning multiple critical SAFe events including PI Planning, System demos, Release Planning, ART sync, and Scrum of Scrums. They also assist and coordinate deployment and release activities as needed.

This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:

Facilitating the team to self-organise; enabling continuous improvement of change and run activities, aligned to the product roadmap and customer expectations Responsible for the coaching and leadership responsibilities that enable Agile delivery; including facilitating team meetings such as retrospectives, reviews and planning events Shield the team from interruptions during sprints to ensure that Agile process doesn't impede team progress

Additional Responsibilities:

Support the intake of work into the release train by gaining alignment on tools and process Keep stakeholders informed of the release trains progress toward release commitments Help the release train establish realistic commitments using historical capacity and performance data Assist teams in capturing and breaking down delivery of more complex requests that require coordination between teams Help the train escalate and remove impediments Remove blockers called out from Scrum of Scrums and ART sync Work with the teams and train to inspect and adapt delivery practices to further optimize the flow of value Lead the preparation leading up to release planning and facilitate release planning events Communicate release planning objectives after release planning week (for the teams and the train) Facilitate the Scrum of Scrums, Product Owner (PO) Syncs and System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt Workshops for the release train Work with Product Managers (PM) to understand and help communicate business priority clearly to product teams, especially when the priority shifts Provide coaching on the train to help resolve process issues across the release train

Requirements:

Certified SAFeĀ® Release Train Engineer Proven track record of success executing in an Agile environment, including SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) 2 years of experience in an IT execution role (e.g., Scrum Master, Release Train Engineer or Product Owner) Prior HSBC Experience, preferably in IT delivery JIRA systems working knowledge Confluence systems working knowledge Experience working with application development and infrastructure teams Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and the ability to deliver sensitive/difficult information tactfully Ability to develop a working knowledge of the technical domain to effectively support technical risks that may arise Ability to assess problems and solve them with a sense of urgency Ability to motivate a team to work together in the most efficient manner Ability to effectively analyze data and apply solutions Ability to lead and motivate diverse project teams and juggle multiple tasks

Preferred:

PO/PM Certification, Leading SAFe and/or SAFe for Teams Certification Knowledge or awareness of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) Previous experience with the Payment Application (PA) DSS or Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) Previous experience with other compliance frameworks such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) or General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Previous cards experience
