DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees a variety of highly complex analytical and technical assignments; provides subject matter expertise and advice for assigned technology and infrastructure systems; plans, manages, and implements infrastructure projects and upgrades; designs and documents infrastructure processes, procedures, and standards. Ensures effectiveness of infrastructure by performing preventive maintenance work and monitoring system performance; diagnoses problems; works with external vendors and COH departments; and supports back-ups for a variety of technologies, business units, and systems.
Understands how technology infrastructure systems support business objectives. Drives innovation and creative solutions by providing value propositions. Influences the strategy; acts as a technical thought leader in specialized area. Implements best practices and uses knowledge of internal and external technology challenges and opportunities to drive business transformation. Addresses risks, limitations and vulnerabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively monitors and analyzes user requests, evaluates, and applies solutions.
Installs, patches, and upgrades hardware and software in accordance with the company’s life cycle management policy.
Develop and maintain detailed documentation of installation and configuration processes, system standards, incidents, and resolutions.
Responsible for day-to-day system administration, including management of internal network, SFTP, Microsoft Active Directory (AD), system backups, file shares, file share permissions, server access, application access, etc.
Supports vendor access to the infrastructure while deploying a new solution or troubleshooting existing solutions.
Execution of all DR tasks and tests as planned and agreed.
Actively monitors all infrastructure components: hardware and software.
Prepares sustaining documentation/metrics for capacity and forecasting reports.
Responsible for deploying infrastructure hardware, software and solutions arising from requests from other organizations.
Develop scripts to automate routine server tasks, such as deployments and monitoring.
Prepares and executes change control tasks according to plan.
Executes IT standards, policies and procedures while sustaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Effectively communicates with upper management on current and anticipated issues.
Participates in an on-call rotation with other infrastructure team members.
Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster.
*You must be eligible to validate contract work experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE
At least five (5) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware. System-specific technical certifications will often be required. Greater than 5 years of directly applicable experience may be considered for substitution of up to two (2) years of the education requirement.
LICENSE
A valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
