What is Information Technology?
The Information Technology (IT) organization at Grant Thornton plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the firm's operations. By providing robust and reliable IT services, the team ensures that all professionals have the tools and resources they need to address business challenges effectively. This includes teams and roles such as IT Governance, Enterprise Architecture, Program/Project Management Office, Platform Management, and Infrastructure & Operations. IT empowers our people to identify internal or client-facing business problems and needs, and then leverage emerging technologies to plan, build, test, and scale high-quality solutions.
Position Summary:
Information Technology Interns will participate in an 8-week program in one of two key areas of Information Technology Governance.
IT Governance
The IT Governance team is responsible for overseeing key areas such as Budgeting & Finance, Vendor Management, Asset Management, and Business Support. Their role is to ensure that IT aligns with organizational objectives and delivers value effectively. IT governance, in this context, refers to the framework that defines decision rights and accountability, promoting responsible and efficient use of information technology. It establishes who is responsible for making critical IT decisions and holding them accountable, ensuring that these decisions are made in a structured and consistent manner. IT governance is not about managing the day-to-day operations of IT but about setting the arrangements for decision-making and responsibility across the organization.
This position will focus on one of two major areas in the IT Governance group, being IT Finance Support and IT Asset Management.
+ IT Reporting & Governance Analytics: This role is primarily focused on analytics and automation, specifically emphasizing the strategic support for our Information Technology budget and financial operations. This includes learning to generate accurate reports utilizing Power BI and other productivity platforms, assisting in responding to ad-hoc requests by providing analyses for decision-making, and collaborating with the team to streamline governance reporting processes and address ad-hoc inquiries.
+ IT Asset Management: This role will focus on assisting in the management and tracking of IT assets, ensuring accurate inventory records, and supporting maintenance of assets in LeanIX, an enterprise architecture management tool. Your role will involve collaborating with various teams to gather and analyze data, helping to streamline asset management processes, and providing support for LeanIX-related tasks to ensure efficient and effective IT operations.
Additional responsibilities may include:
+ Collaborate with professionals from the US and India within the Global Technology team for a diverse international experience, with potential opportunities to work with colleagues in Ireland.
+ Participate in and deliver presentation(s) during the Quarterly All Hands IT Town Hall.
+ Interact with internal resources to contribute to essential Information Technology projects aligned with core service areas.
Information Technology Qualifications:
+ Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.

+ Strong academic performance with an interest in technology and a creative mindset.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
+ Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
+ Ability to work in both remote and in-person work environments, in both of the Chicagoland offices (Downers Grove and downtown Chicago.)

The pay rate for this position in the firm's Chicago, IL office is $33.50 per hour.

+ Benefits for internship positions: Grant Thornton interns are eligible to participate in the firm’s medical, dental and vision insurance programs and the firm’s employee assistance program. Interns also receive a minimum of 72 hours of paid sick leave and are paid for firm holidays that fall within their internship period.
