Job Description SummaryThe PDx IP Analyst will be responsible for targeted searching and cross functional coordination across the business around recurring organizational needs. Specific responsibilities across a range of relationships (detailed below) will include collaboratively designing and executing on search strategies for a variety of purposes including: IP diligence supporting acquisition, merger or licensing opportunities; identifying and/or maintaining awareness of third party intellectual property misappropriation; fostering development of project teams focused around gathering relevant competitive intelligence; supporting freedom-to-operate evaluations of new (or modified) product introductions; patentability assessments for preparation of new patent applications. While searching is expected to principally focus upon molecular, formulation and diagnostic applications, searches may also reach into biological (sequence searches (nucleic acid, protein), antibody and/or cell), mechanical and digital technologies.

Job Description

Internal Partnering:  The IP Analyst will partner with PDx IP Counsel to ensure the appropriate breadth and specificity of searching is conducted, towards developing distilled work product in support of the following functions:

Strategy, M&A, BD: The IP Analyst will design and execute on structure and text-based field searching to identify relevant patents that may be used to evaluate FTO for prospective mergers, acquisitions or licensing opportunities, or to interrogate the relative strength (or patentability) of corresponding patents (or patent applications). Analytical interest in patent prosecution histories and curiosity chasing threads of information from a multitude of sources are preferred attributes.   Product Leaders, Procurement & Sourcing, R&D/CMC: As established or innovative products are introduced into markets, or as their manufacturing process is modified (internally or via contract), or as their composition is changed, the IP Analyst will conduct searching to help identify the existence of any third party IP that may pose freedom-to-operate risks.Product Leaders: Regular searching will be conducted to develop awareness of possible third party misappropriation of GEHC PDx assets including unauthorized commercial sale or independent academic or research use.Product Leaders, Market Access, R&D, BD: Working with product portfolio leaders to track technological trends, the IP Analyst will help facilitate searching (for review by other team members) looking to maintain awareness of early developing intellectual property signals that may also create business opportunities (for growth or defensive protection).R&D: Structure and/or text-based searching will also be used to support evaluation of prospective new applications to be filed to ensure applications are drafted as strongly (and broadly) as possible with knowledge of the closest available prior art.

Specific Skills:  In support of the above, the IP Analyst will have and further develop expertise with STN chemical structure Registry and Marpat searches, and text and field based boolean searching across relevant free and subscription search platforms. The IP Analyst will be responsible for taking a first review at retrieved hits to sort into categories of varying relevance, with a keen eye for detail especially as it may relate to Markush and/or genus patent claims. Critical factors for success include strong communication and presentation skills along with an ability to conduct independent analytical thinking and problem solving.  The successful candidate should have a chemistry background preferably in the pharmaceutical space.
