Role overview:
This role is responsible for the management, growth and strategic direction for investments in the Impact Investing space, and specifically in the field of education. Key Result Areas:
This job entails undertaking asset management functions of education investments from cradle to grave with the key objectives being to:
Deliver commercial returns for investors.Deliver development impact that contributes to quality education in South Africa.Providing strategic direction to the operating partners in investment companies.Responsible for researching, analysing and providing relevant information in the Impact Investing space in the field of education.Undertake due diligence and analyse investments with reference to track record, financial soundness, sustainability, scalability, and operational soundness.Structure and restructure investments within the mandates of the fund, develop and stress financial models for the project in conjunction with the operating partners.Negotiate and develop appropriate action plans and strategic interventions with operating partners. Write up and present investment and education proposals, having assessed operational effectiveness.Management of investments, which includes:Perform the technical functions required to undertake financial modelling, review and management of monthly and quarterly management reports, and provide reports including assets reports, valuation reports, and investor reports.Ensure that the operator of education investments delivers on their legal obligations and business objectives through effectively fulfilling the role of Fund Manager, through participation in quarterly board meetings, and through providing leadership on key business matters as they arise.Ensure that the education developments are identified and completed timeously within budget and to the right quality.Performance analysis, monitoring and reporting.Analyse and record the developmental impacts and social benefits because of the investments.Risk management.Board representation.Contribute as a member of the team to the management and policy directions of the funds.Contribute where required to interacting with and managing, third party investors into the funds.Work as part of the education team, and across OMAI, the Wealth and Investment Cluster and the broader Old Mutual.The post is Cape Town based, but work is national with travel essential.Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
Four-year undergraduate degree.Post-graduate qualification in financial, property, education or related field (e.g. MBA/CFA/CA) would be advantageous.10+ years’ experience in finance and Education sector would be advantageous.Strategy and investment experience would be advantageous.Key Attributes & Competencies:

Risk Scenario ModelingUndertake strategic and tactical risk modeling and scenario planning for business-critical decisions to support business strategy and to identify and mitigate risk in line with the risk appetite. Advise on modeling of risk scenarios to comply with the risk appetite.
Financial Policies, Guidelines, and ProtocolsLead and coordinate the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols across the business to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
Leadership and DirectionIdentify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
Financial Management and ControlManage a significant portion of the organization's financial management and/or control processes.
Operations ManagementManage a significant operational area for the organization.
Performance ManagementManage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
Internal Client Relationship ManagementManage relationships with strategic internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and mobilizing appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
BudgetingManage budget plans for a department. May involve development or delivery or both.
Internal CommunicationsManage certain aspects of the internal communications system with some guidance from senior colleagues. This could mean being responsible for the development or operation of the system.
Organizational Capability BuildingEvaluate the capabilities of staff within the department to identify gaps and prioritize development activities. Implement the organization's formal development frameworks within the area of responsibility. Coach and mentor others to support the development of the organization's talent pool.
