We are today a team of approximate 45+ people and have five ventures. Our office space is very central at Drottninggatan in Stockholm. The function is a part of the function ZR, Mobility Solutions, Venture Capital and Mergers and Acquisitions. You will report to Sarah Holford, Head of M&A.
Job description
We are looking for an Investment Portfolio Manager to provide specialist financial and corporate support in managing Scania’s portfolio of strategic non-controlled equity investments. This role will focus on understanding and evaluating the financial value of each investment, tracking changes in those valuations, advising on strategic exit and follow-on opportunities, and ensuring alignment between the corporate plans of these companies and our own strategic objectives. The role also involves close monitoring and management of all contractual triggers and obligations associated with these shareholdings.
The ideal candidate will have strong financial, strategic, and commercial acumen, along with a deep understanding of investment management and corporate governance.
The VC and M&A team is a small and fast paced department, with bright and energetic colleagues undertaking strategically significant transactions. The right candidate will be offered significant opportunities for transaction exposure and development in a dynamic and supportive working environment.
Key responsibilities
Investment Monitoring and Valuation:
Conduct regular reviews of Scania’s non-controlled shareholdings to assess financial performance, value, and return on investment. Monitor and analyse changes in the valuation of investments over time, incorporating market trends, company performance, and external factors. Provide insights and recommendations on how to optimize the financial value of the portfolio.
Strategic Planning and Advisory:
Work closely with the management teams, and cross-functional across Scania, to align investment strategy with Scania’s broader corporate and commercial goals. Advise on potential exit strategies, strategic follow-on investments, or capital injections based on market conditions and business performance. Develop and maintain long-term strategic plans for each shareholding in collaboration with Scania’s leadership.
Corporate and Commercial Interaction:
Understand and evaluate how each shareholding’s corporate and commercial plans affect the overall strategy and potential value of the investment. Coordinate with internal business units and external stakeholders to ensure commercial strategies are aligned.
Contractual Management:
Monitor and manage complex contractual terms associated with the non-controlling shareholdings, including rights, obligations, governance provisions, buy/sell agreements, put and call options and other triggers. Ensure compliance with key contractual terms and proactively advise on the impact of contractual events (e.g., voting rights, pre-emption rights, tag-along/drag-along clauses). Liaise with legal and external advisors as necessary to address any potential contractual issues or opportunities.
Risk Management:
Identify risks related to each investment, including financial, operational, or market-related risks. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the value of the investments.
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare regular reports for the executive team, summarizing portfolio performance, investment valuations, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including partners, board members, and potential acquirers.About you
You are an experienced professional with a strong passion for the future transport industry, keen to learn more about new areas and develop the Scania portfolio for new technologies and learnings.
You will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field. An advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent) is preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in investment management, corporate finance, private equity, or a related field, with a focus on non-controlled investments or minority stakes. Strong understanding of financial analysis, valuation methods, and investment strategies. Experience with corporate governance, contractual obligations, and shareholder rights related to minority investments. Proven ability to manage complex investments and analyse business plans for long-term strategic growth. Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. High level of attention to detail, particularly with respect to contracts and legal agreements.The role will be based in Stockholm with potentially extensive travel requirements.
