Old Mutual's Multi-Manager business is on the lookout for an Investment Consultant to become a part of their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in consulting with high-calibre investment clients, to develop bespoke investment strategies that align with their unique practice needs.

Key responsibilities include:

Engage with clients to understand their investment goals and requirements, providing expert advice on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and investment product selection.Utilize an extensive array of internal resources, including in-depth manager research, performance ratings, product design, and strategic asset allocation tools, to craft optimal investment solutions.Assist clients in constructing and managing their investment portfolios.Provide guidance on asset allocation to optimize investment performance.Maintain and build strong relationships with industry professionals and financial advisors, providing high-quality service and expert investment guidance.Ensure all investment strategies comply with regulatory requirements.Maintain a comprehensive understanding of South African financial regulations, including FSCA rules, CISCA, JSE listing requirements, Hedge fund, and offshore regulations, ensuring compliance across all client portfolios.Provide insights on tax efficiency strategies, including SITUS, income tax, and capital gains tax considerations.Demonstrate expertise in product regulation and construction, including Unit Trusts, active and passive ETFs, Personal share portfolios, UCITS legislation, and investment structures such as Guernsey and Mauritius PCCs and VCCs.Offer guidance on local and international product wrappers, investment platforms, distribution channels, and the intricate web of tax and investment structures.Conduct ongoing market analysis to stay abreast of the competitive landscape, both locally and globally, utilizing advanced portfolio construction tools to inform client recommendations.Develops investment and or economic strategies based on management philosophy and customer objectives.Monitors developments in security markets.Assists with report backs and provides performance feedback.Works with consultants to develop new products and features in existing products to suit specific target markets.Manage investment solutions using a robust and consistent approachTake responsibility for trading and rebalancing solutionsImplement, Interrogate and improve portfolio optimization and construction methodsinterrogate fund peer group output and quality (e.g. quarterly screening, manager flags, report back preparation, fiduciary updates) for the benefit of portfolio construction

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

An investment-related qualification, preferably at a postgraduate level (e.g., CFA, CFP, or equivalent).5 - 8 years of relevant experience in the investment industry, with a proven track record of success in investment consultancy.Extensive knowledge of financial markets, investment products, and regulatory frameworks, particularly within the South African context.Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and market trends.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with a diverse set of clients.Proficiency in financial software and tools.

Participates in developing investment recommendations for portfolio managers relating to existing and potential investments. Develops and amends quantitative models to analyse and forecast market developments, estimating risks, identifying factors influencing investment decisions and quantifying potential risks and rewards.

ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management and Control

Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of the financial management and/or control process.

Risk Scenario Modeling

Analyze, assess, and quantify the risks associated with products, individual applications, business activities, and the market to determine whether any risk is within the agreed risk appetite. Undertake tactical risk modeling.

Data Collection and Analysis

Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.

Financial Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols

Create a plan to deliver and review financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.

Investment Management

Analyze and forecast investment or market trends by designing and developing nonroutine investment models. May also manage specific assigned portfolios while helping to develop investment policy.

Recommendations

Recommend changes to policies, processes, standards, and practices that would improve operational support.

Internal Communications

Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of internal communications with guidance from senior colleagues.

Information and Business Advice

Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving complex or contentious queries and issues and enabling others to take appropriate actions.

Document Preparation

Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.

Internal Client Relationship Management

Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and managing the deployment of appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.

Personal Capability Building

Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
