A member of the Nexus family treatment programs, Nexus-Onarga Family Healing is located approximately 90 miles south of Chicago and only a few miles off of I-57 on a historic site in Onarga, IL. Nexus Onarga provides boys ages 10 to 20 years old a structured, homelike environment where they can safely address their unhealthy sexual behaviors and their emotional and behavioral issues.

Position Summary:

The Intern is responsible for applying learned classroom theory with on-the-job practical experience in the assigned program while ensuring the applicable Academic Program and or/Academic Institution’s learning criteria is satisfied. General responsibilities and duties will vary depending on the types of services and programs offered at each individual Nexus Family Healing agency location. Intern shadowing and training experiences could include youth & family social work, early-childhood treatment, intensive in-home treatment, facilitating client resources, therapeutic assessment and stabilization, family therapy, tracking and evaluating treatment outcomes, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

Fulfills the required academic program and or/ Academic Institution’s criteria for an internship learning objectives. Participates in the orientation and the onboarding process to learn Nexus Family Healing’s policy and procedure expectations (e.g. safety, harassment free environment, resident confidentiality, etc.) Ensures confidentiality of all treatment and services information pertaining to clients and their families. Maintains agreed upon schedule and timeliness. Meets the supervision requirements and expectations. Acts ethically, professionally, and is respectful when communicating and interfacing with clients, coworkers, and external contacts. Performs other job-related responsibilities, tasks and projects as needed and/or requested of the position. For advanced internships: The level of involvement in daily responsibilities and/or participation in any short or long-term projects will be support by Nexus Family Healing and will not be dependent upon the work of the intern. Rather, the assigned supervisor will provide “job shadowing” or observational opportunities that allow the intern to learn certain skills or functions while under supervision.

Required Education and Licensure:

Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or other graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences, human services, or related fields, from an accredited college or university. Must meet the required number of experience hours in a human services field for the internship level. Valid driver's license required and meets the state regulating agency and Corporate driving requirements.

Nice to Have:

Knowledge of family-based philosophy and practice is preferred.

Schedule:

To be coordinated by the Nexus agency supervisor and Intern. The intern may be asked to maintain a schedule that is adjustable and flexible to meet changing work needs and demands of clients and their families.

Duration:

Internships are relatively short-term in nature or will typically range from one quarter to one year in duration. The duration of the internship will be established in advance of the internship. An intern is not necessarily entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship. All recruitment and selection practices at the conclusion of the internship will be in accordance with Nexus standards.

Acknowledgement:

All affiliation and/or contract agreements between Nexus Family Healing and the academic institution must be approved by Nexus Family Healing site leadership. In conjunction with the designated affiliation agreement, Nexus Family Healing will strive to meet the established requirements of the college/university for the student. There will be coordinated planning between the local Nexus Family Healing agency location and the academic institution to enhance the student’s experience.
