Internship: R&D LLM Security and Defense - F/M

We help the world run better

At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.

What you'll do

Given the increasing importance of LLMs in various industries and their potential for widespread impact, ensuring their security is paramount. This internship aims to develop and maintain a robust LLM Security and Defense solution.

This solution will serve as a vital tool for safeguarding the deployment and usage of LLMs by:

Conducting comprehensive security assessments: The solution will systematically evaluate LLMs for vulnerabilities such as bias, toxicity, and adversarial attacks. By identifying these potential risks proactively, we can mitigate their impact and ensure the responsible use of LLMs. Implementing robust protection mechanisms: The solution will incorporate effective input and output sanitization techniques to prevent malicious inputs from compromising the LLM's integrity and to safeguard sensitive information. This will help to protect the LLM from being exploited for harmful purposes. Providing actionable insights: The solution will generate clear and informative reports that highlight identified vulnerabilities and offer recommendations for remediation. This will empower organizations to make informed decisions about the deployment and management of LLMs, minimizing risks and maximizing benefits.

In the above-described context, the specific goals and tasks of the internship are as follows:

Research: Conduct in-depth research on LLM security best practices, vulnerability assessment methodologies, and sanitization techniques. Solution Development: Design and implement an LLM security and defense solution using Python or other suitable programming languages. Security Testing Framework: Create a comprehensive framework for testing LLMs against various security threats, including adversarial attacks, data poisoning, and bias. Vulnerability Detection Algorithms: Develop algorithms or utilize existing techniques to identify and classify vulnerabilities in LLM outputs. Sanitization Techniques: Implement effective input and output sanitization techniques to mitigate security risks and protect sensitive information. Evaluation and Refinement: Continuously evaluate the solution's effectiveness and make necessary refinements based on testing results and emerging threats. Documentation: Create clear and concise documentation for the LLM security and defense solution, including user guides, technical specifications, and best practices.

We expect that 40% of time will be dedicated to research activities, and 60% to development.
