Join Xylem in the global mission to #LetsSolveWater! As a leading water technology company with 23,000 employees operating in over 150 countries, Xylem is at the forefront of addressing the world's most critical water challenges. We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.
**THE ROLE:** Xylem is seeking Intern candidates with a background in engineering, information science or management information systems to join our team. As a member of the team you would develop, test and implement new processes to help monitor operations and improve performance and reliability.
Xylem Summer Internships typically last 10-12 weeks and are an opportunity to get hands-on, professional experience while making a lasting contribution to Xylem as an organization. Our internship program is intended to create a pipeline of talented undergraduate students who are interested in a career in the water innovation technology industry. Interns are our primary talent pool for all full-time early career positions and rotational programs. The Summer Internship is a great opportunity to learn more about Xylem and see if a career in water technology is right for you.
The hourly rate for an intern is dependent on a variety of factors including major, year in school and geographic location. The average hourly rate for an intern is between $21.00 - $27.00/hour. Locations of internships will vary based on the specified project and function, and will either be on-site, hybrid or fully remote.
**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:**
· Develop and facilitate processes to capture and maintain critical data and documentation for operating sites and merge it with telemetry data to create compelling visualizations.
· Establish or improve process workflows and audit their execution to improve our speed of communication and our adherence to best practices for management of change.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
· Experience using the following Microsoft products or equivalent for collaboration & analytics: Excel, Word, Teams, Power BI, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Visio.
· Project management including schedule development, resource planning, progress reporting and procedure development & implementation.
· Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD for modeling fluid processing operations.
· Some knowledge of process instrumentation & control, including statistical process control.
**DAY IN THE LIFE:**
A successful candidate will work daily with a peer group, preferably all located in our Houston, Texas office. The group will have a variety of projects related to our installed base of operating sites and service sites and any new sites we may add over the summer.
In the first week, office workstations will be assigned and laptops will be issued and loaded with the necessary software. Interns will also receive training regarding Xylem policies, facility and site safety and various aspects of our Heavy Industry service business.
In addition to a hiring manager, each intern will have a project coach or mentor, who will provide initial information related to their summer project and check in with them at least once per week to discuss
progress and barriers and suggest strategies for moving forward. Interns will also be introduced to other personnel to help them understand the various roles and responsibilities that exist within our organization. Each intern will become part of a network of service and support professionals.
Daily activities will involve advancing one or more programs in our Enable72 strategy, a collection of tools and processes dedicated to the idea that systems should be able to run 72 hours or more without an unplanned visit. This strategy relies on preventive maintenance, remote monitoring and process control optimization. It requires setting plans for operation and service, executing to the plan, observing the results and modifying the plan as required for continuous improvement and operational stability.
Advancing this work will involve documenting the plans for individual operating sites, making sure the plans remain accurate and accessible, and making sure responsible parties are aware when operation deviates from the plan so that corrective action can be taken promptly. The plans may be captured in drawings, schedules, operating limits, decision trees or various sorts of files. Compliance or deviation will be visualized in reports and communicated to help drive improvements in process execution.
This role will have access to physical equipment that passes through our Houston facility and may have a few visits to field operating sites, but the bulk of the work will involve remote monitoring and interfacing with field personnel remotely to gather information and resolve problems. Being able to support and drive results remotely is a core competency in Xylem’s journey toward more efficient operations.
At the conclusion of the summer work, each intern will create and present a summary of their work accomplishments to a panel of Xylem managers, including standard work processes they created or improved and recommendations for next steps or future projects.
Xylem does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
