PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The key function of this position is to do quality checks on telecommunications cabling hardware and installations, maintaining all telecommunications drawings (room layouts, rack layouts, cable tray layouts, outside and inside plant), and maintaining the cabling infrastructure database. 

OBJECTIVES

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Quality control and keeping telecommunications documentation updated.
• Daily checks on interconnect installations, and keeping database updated.
• Daily checks on cabling hardware (fibre panels, copper panels, labels, racks).
• Keeping all rack elevation drawings updated (Data Halls, MMR’s, Patch rooms).
• Keeping data centre cable tray layout drawings updated.
• Keeping inside plant cable tray rack layouts updated
• Maintaining outside plant fibre infrastructure routing drawings and capacity.

SKILLS REQUIREMENT

• Strong documentation skills. 
• Attention to detail imperative.
• Open to learn and grow essential.
• Take accountability and ownership.
• Must be able to read and interpret building/floor plans.
• Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
• Microsoft office (Outlook, Visio, Excel, Word)

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12
• CDCP, A+, N+ or equivalent certification 
• Certified installations certificate (Fluke/CommScope/Molex/Corning or equivalent)
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in network infrastructure cabling (Coax, copper, fibre).
• Accustomed to working in a high-energy environment.
• Technical competence and understanding are vital.
• Valid South African Driver’s License.
