The Position

About the Position:

The Intellectual Property Specialist works with scientific and/or intellectual properties staff to prepare and process patent applications for the company.

Regularly interacts with outside patent counsel.  Performs other administrative patent duties as required.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Prepare documents relating to the prosecution of patent applications in the USPTO.

Prepare patent applications and file in the USPTO.

Maintain electronic patent docket system for each assigned attorney and prepare reports.

Send and receive correspondence to and from affiliates relating to patent prosecution, opinion work, client counseling, litigation matters handled by assigned attorneys.

Create, organize, and maintain patent prosecution, infringement clearance, and litigation files as directed.

Review all incoming emails, from one or more group email boxes. Determine if email is actionable or non-actionable.

Note instructions given or confirmations received from outside counsel in the proper matter within the docketing system. 

Review all incoming workflows coming from the global docketing group, audit the docketing system for accuracy.

Assist with references from incoming office actions, docket Information Disclosure actions as needed, filing of Information Disclosure Statements as needed. 

Request signatures from inventors and attorneys on assignments and declarations 

Event coordination including the creation of meetings, finding meeting space, ordering food as needed. 

Act as a point of contact for attorneys and inventors, as needed. 

Provide back-up support to the rest of the paralegal team during vacations and out of offices, as needed. 

 

Who you are:

Minimum of two years of U.S. patent prosecution experience working in an in-house legal environment or law firm in a legal assistant role or similar. 

Respectful, reliable and dependable team player; ability to work productively with personnel at all levels and with minimal supervision. .

Proficiency with Google Workspace including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet. 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Familiarity with basic USPTO procedures, rules and requirements: knowledge of basic U.S. and PCT patent rules and procedures. 

Excellent client service skills.

Possess effective written and verbal communication skills. 

Display a strong client service orientation with a positive attitude. 

Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.

Ability to assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions. 

Excellent organizational skills

Must be a good planner and detail oriented.

Other Skills:

Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment, and work well under pressure.

Ability to meet deadlines, organize and prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects simultaneously. 

Ability to work independently and take initiative to move projects to completion.  

Knowledge of Anaqua, Lucidchart, and Docusign is a plus.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Tucson, AZ is 55,300.00 USD - 85,500.00 USD annually.

Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
