Insurance Verification Rep - (FT)

The Insurance Verification Clerk has the primary responsibility of reviewing insurance benefits and insurance requirements on all scheduled Out Patients, Surgery patients and all admitted patients. This position will contact the appropriate insurance company via telephone and/or insurance website for the purpose of a) identifying patient eligibility, b) obtaining eligibility dates, c) obtaining information regarding deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance amounts due, d) obtaining information regarding authorization requirements and e) documenting all information in the patient’s account. This position is responsible for making certain that the facility receives all monies due from the insurance company and patient.
**BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:**
**REQUIRED:**
+ High School diploma or GED equivalent.
+ Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing to insurance company representatives, physician office representatives, co-workers and all hospital departments and/or patient care floors.
+ Good organizational and customer service skills and the ability to function effectively under stress.
+ This position requires proficiency in the following: Ability to type 40 wpm, use of computers and printers, fax machines and computer internet services.
**PREFERRED:**
+ Prior experience in the healthcare industry and/or medical terminology.
+ Working knowledge of PPO, HMO, Medicare, Commercial and liability insurance.
**BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**
+ Attention to detail and concentration
+ Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
