Currently this course is taught for two distinct groups on campus:

Morrill Scholar Cohort – a group of +/- 300 incoming first year students who are typically registered in Orientation Four. Scholars are identified after being registered in one of the faculty fellow or US210D course. General Statement As part of a dynamic team, Seminar Leaders are responsible for leading small group discussions and facilitating conversation with, and among, students to bring to life the design life concepts taught in class (US 210 – Education, the World of Work, and YOU). Course content includes exploration of globalization, the economy, the meaning of education, the world of work and early career planning. Students will gain an understanding of these factors and broaden their world and work-view to ideate, prototype and test reality to develop their career and life design Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Course Director, Seminar Leaders will be tasked with providing instruction, counsel, insight and attention to students registered in their the US 210 seminar group that will meet once per week (for fall semester). This, is in addition to attending the seminar course taught once per week by the course director (during fall semester).We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the learning, development and engagement of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

This includes, but is not limited to:

Leading a seminar course of approximately 19 students Facilitating small group discussion and reflection activities, case study work, Grading papers, assignments and a class presentation for each student Help students decode important information, ideas and tactics and assimilate learning in alignment with the course objectives. Attending facilitator meetings once per week to discuss the material, teaching pedagogy and classroom concerns as they arise. Working with student mentors when applicable. This may include some supervisory duties, depending on the role of the mentor. Teach within the diverse University community, and to help students from diverse backgrounds find success in their career and occupational aspirations. Synthesize their academic/professional experience with the classroom to deliver high quality career life design curriculum.


Based upon funding, need and employee performance, there may be the possibility of work through the Fall semester to maintain the career planning momentum developed during the Summer Success Academy and to ensure progress is made by scholars from previous cohorts in their design life planning. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Master’s degree or higher in related field. Demonstrated Professional experience making presentations and generating professional writing Demonstrated and effective classroom teaching experience and/or workshop facilitation. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Possess knowledge of the education system and related services. Academic/professional experience. Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity. Experience working with college students or similar populations as a mentor/advisor or teacher in a professional environment. Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues. Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses. The Successful Candidate Will Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Have a strong desire to help students create their MSU experience with intentionality. Have the ability to relate to, mentor, and inspire students and to develop classroom rapport with a diverse student body. Have effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, mentors and staff. Be committed to quality teaching, and skilled in utilizing engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process. Take initiative and work well both independently and in a group setting. Maintain confidentiality of records and information. Possess a willingness and desire to engage in learning themselves. Possess an enthusiastic approach and a high level of integrity. Position Special Requirements/Additional Information This position will require attendance at a weekly meeting (Tuesdays at 3 p.m., Lecture at 4:30 p.m., plus one seminar class during the week) This position may require some evening and weekend work. This position may require attendance at field trips around the Bozeman area.
