Function/Duties of Position

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our inpatient team on the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology service. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides collaborative and multidisciplinary acute care of children and young adults with a team of attending physicians, and resident and fellow trainees. The APP coordinates patient care, provides advanced education to nurses and other staff, contributes to new knowledge and/or technology by conducting in-services and preparing education material, and participates in research by caring for patients who are enrolled in clinical trial research protocols.  The APP participates in quality initiatives and program development that ensure optimal safety and patient satisfaction.

 

The APP faculty will have numerous opportunities to become involved in quality improvement work, education, research, and childhood advocacy. Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics, and the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology are committed to developing our faculty members’ careers. A pathway for academic promotion for the APPs has also been implemented at OHSU.

 

Professional participation is expected, including attendance in relevant educational conferences and didactic conferences.

As teaching is an important portion of the OHSU and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital missions, you will be responsible for collaborating with and teaching students and trainees.

 

The Advanced Practice Provider is a faculty member credentialed and privileged to serve as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

 

This role is aligned with the OHSU Dept of Pediatrics Mission of clinical, advocacy, research, and educational excellence.

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

Rounds on patients on 10S on a daily basis with faculty, trainees, and studentsDevelops, implements, and evaluates clinical plans of care or guidelines for patients with common conditions, diagnoses, and/or proceduresAssures the safe, efficient, high quality and customer-oriented management of children including but not limited to completing a comprehensive assessment of the patient's statusDevelops, monitors and revises evidence-based treatment plans that address diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternativesInterprets diagnostic tests, prescribes and manages medications and other therapiesProvides management and treatment of common acute and chronic health diagnoses in childrenProvides health teaching with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenanceRefers patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary

 

Education/Advocacy:

Provides clinical education to fellows, residents, medical and APP students participating in pediatric rotationsProvides feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners and traineesProvides feedback and guidance in the continuing development and improvement of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship programScholarship/Research: APP faculty are expected to have a scholarly activity. This may include educating learners, research, grant supported work, quality improvement projects, academic papers and/or presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity.  

 

Administrative Activities:

Master’s Degree or higher as required by specific Advanced Provider role and:

Physician Assistant requirementsCurrent & Active Physician Assistant license for State of OregonCurrent Physician Assistant National Board Certification Nurse Practitioner requirementsCurrent Acute Care/Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive PrivilegesPrimary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners also need prior experience in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology inpatient serviceAppropriate National board certification Current active DEA license Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlinesAbility to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in Pediatrics, particularly Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Additional Details
