Developing and implementing curriculum and weekly instruction plans; coordinating schedules of all ancillary personnel; communicating with members of the team caring for each resident; supervising and evaluating teacher assistants and others as assigned. Provide instruction to residents with severe/intensive special needs.

Responsibilities

Planning and supervision of day program schedule, in a team approach with other Adult Service staff.

Coordinating the roles of teacher assistants.

Modeling and teaching teacher assistants new skills.

Keeping open and ongoing communication with each resident’s nursing unit and other interdisciplinary team members.

Maintaining regular communication with each resident’s social worker.

Identifying and ordering needed materials and equipment approved by supervisor and Director of Education.

Keeping materials and equipment in good working order, including cleanliness.

Direct supervision and formal evaluation of teacher assistants assigned to the classroom.

Planning of and participation in class or individual community experience activities.

Committee member as assigned or volunteered.

Ongoing support to the adult residents and/or provision of specialized services for the adult.

Ongoing assessment of overall functioning level.

Assisting in the development of ISP, monthly curriculum content, weekly plans, evaluations, portfolios and RISPs.

Implementation of plans.

Participation in Unit meetings, IEP/ISP meetings, clinics and in-services.

Development quarterlies and progress notes, present resident status at interdisciplinary service/support plan meetings.

Participation in unit meetings, education/individualized services/support plan meetings, clinics and in-services as needed.

Coordinate services of all appropriate ancillary personnel/consultants within the program; implement necessary supports for communication,
mobility, etc.

Regular communication with nursing staff to ensure sound practices and to gain knowledge of the adult’s continually changing medical status.

Physical management of adults’ educational and personal care needs including lifting, positioning and changing.

Attend and participate in continuing educational programs and local school programs following the goals and objectives of the ISP.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in Education or Human Services preferred, in addition to experience with supervision/leadership.
