Instructional Designer
Instructional Designer Job ID 2024-27554 Category Field Operations Overview

The Instructional Designer is responsible for creating effective learning experiences by designing, developing, and implementing educational programs, training materials, and digital learning modules. The job typically involves, but is not limited to, working with subject matter experts (SMEs), using instructional theory, and applying technology to produce training programs that facilitate learning and improve performance. The role of the Instructional Designer is critical in helping the organization foster a culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring employees or learners can acquire knowledge and skills effectively and efficiently. This position directly reports to and partners with the Senior Manager of Digital Learning.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

 

Needs Assessment:

Collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and learners to assess learning needsAnalyze target audience characteristics and learning preferences to inform design decisions

Instructional Design:

Develop instructional materials, including course outlines, storyboards, content, and assessments, aligned with learning objectivesDesign learning experiences for a variety of formats, such as in-person training, digital learning modules, webinars, blended learning, and moreApply instructional design theories, adult learning principles, and best practices in education and training

Content Development:

Create and curate engaging and interactive learning content, including multimedia elements such as videos, quizzes, simulations, and activitiesCollaborate with graphic designers, developers, and video editors to produce visually appealing and technically sound learning materialsUse authoring tools like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia to develop digital learning courses

Technology Integration

Leverage learning management systems (LMS) and other platforms for delivering and tracking training programsStay up to date on the latest educational technologies and learning trends, incorporating new tools and techniques as appropriate

Evaluation and Improvement:

Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials and training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance dataMake data-driven improvements to instructional content and delivery methodsConduct pilot testing and iterate based on learner feedback and learning outcomes

Project Management:

Manage instructional design projects, including timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scopeCoordinate with cross-functional teams including SMEs, trainers, developers, and other stakeholders

Qualifications:

Proficiency in digital learning tools Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and SCORM standardsFamiliarity with multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, or similarStrong communication and collaboration skillsAbility to translate complex information into easy-to-understand learning contentExcellent problem-solving, time management, and project management abilitiesKnowledge of user experience (UX) design principles for learning interfaces

Education and Experience:

Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or a related field2+ years of experience in instructional design, digital learning development, or curriculum designExperience in designing mobile learning (m-learning) solutionsExperience working with gamification, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), or other innovative learning technologies Need help finding the right job?
