GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Agriculture is searching for an Inspection Specialist II for its Technical Services Division. This position will perform Plant Industry and Weights and Measures inspections in an assigned duty area. Including label reviews of registered products, sampling of seeds, feeds and fertilizers; apiary and plant nursery inspections as well as inspecting gas pumps, liquified petroleum gas meters and small to medium capacity scales. The successful applicant will be required to operate and maintain an assigned vehicle and various equipment in order to perform required tasks, understand a variety of State statutes and regulations, work independently to schedule and perform inspections, coordinate equipment needs with other Division employees, and perform related tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
• Reviews product labels for compliance with state and federal statutes.
• Samples seed, feed, hemp, fertilizers, pesticides, animal remedies, soil conditioners, and amendments as needed and ensures safe shipping or delivery of samples to the appropriate lab.
• Inspects nursery stock at greenhouses and other locations in an assigned duty area to ensure plant health.
• Inspects apiaries in an assigned duty area.
• Inspects gas pumps, small & medium capacity scales, vehicle tank meters and liquified petroleum gas meters for accuracy in an assigned duty area
• Responds to complaints as necessary for fuel quality or any assigned duty.
• Performs a variety of tasks in the enforcement of state and federal statutes and rules.
• Inspects establishments and equipment.
• Maintains records and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
• Preference may be given to the candidate with a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, plant science, animal science, metrology or physics.
• Preference may be given to a candidate with prior inspection experience.
• Preference may be given to a candidate with agricultural or horticultural experience.
• Preference may be given to a candidate with strong computer skills.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of record keeping and data entry.
• Knowledge of testing and inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical devices.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Will be exposed varying weather conditions both indoors and outdoors.
+ Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
