In this position you will serve as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist system analysis, using information technology (IT) to plan, design, and implement IT systems to meet the business requirements of customer organizations. Leads work center personnel in the execution of a broad area of work processes and practices to meet requirements that affect business applications. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages acquisition of IT assets. Provides technical oversight in the area of information technology (IT) operating systems. Evaluates new system engineering technologies and the effect on existing environments. Reviews proposed technical solutions and identifies concerns/issues prior to acquisition efforts. Initiates and participates in transition meetings to arrange orderly turnovers from the analyst to administrator. Verifies that all hardware and software components ordered for technical solutions are available for deployment of new and upgraded systems. Manages life cycle design and maintenance specifications for new IT assets. Plans and coordinates all phases of the acquisition. As the organization's focal point for ensuring functionality and operability of the operating system environment, provides technical assistance to all analysts. Conducts extensive organizational research and analytical studies to determine specific requirements and develops specifications in support of selected acquisition actions. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management positions located here. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to GS 05 - GS11. Specialized Experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Included with IT experience the following would apply: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Desired Skills: 1 year experience working with and remediating Security Technical Implementation Guides(STIG) 2 years experience troubleshooting Server Operating Systems and Applications 1 year team lead or project management experience desired KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to plan, organize, and provide technical leadership and project management oversight for system/application daily operational administration. Knowledge of latest technology advancements to initiate corrective/preventative actions for optimum performance. Extensive knowledge of virtual environment, SAN and LUN provisioning, configuration and management. Knowledge of principles, methods and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to administer systems and optimize system performance. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems; provide support that minimizes service interruptions to customers; maintain liaison with industry and other activities. Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain systems; to optimize functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to coordinate technical support of systems.
