Position Purpose:

Responsible for assisting the Infection Prevention Nurse with infection related surveillance, reporting, identification, problem-solving and reduction of healthcare acquired infections and adherence to infection prevention practices throughout the organization. Responsible for coordination and oversight for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) data submission/maintenance.

What you will Do:

Assists the Infection Prevention Nurse in the day-to-day review and follow-up to support the infection prevention program.Conducts surveillance related to infection prevention and control and critically evaluates data to identify trends, outbreaks and process improvement opportunities as defined by Infection Prevention Committee as identified by the annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment.Collaborates with Infection Prevention Nurse, Clinical Continuous Improvement Specialists (CCIS) to review, coordinate investigation, problem solving, counter-measure implementation for improvement and reporting of hospital acquired infections.Submits infection prevention and colleague and patient safety data to the National Safety Healthcare Network (NSHN) as required by regulatory bodies and in accordance with the Infection Prevention Program goals.Submits infection prevention and patient safety data to NDNQI as in accordance with the organization’s quality and strategic initiativesMaintains up to date knowledge of Infection Prevention policies, procedures, practices and assists with day-to-day compliance.  Participates in Infection Prevention Committee. Assists with the review and revision of hospital and department specific Infection Prevention policies using evidence based guidelines, applicable laws, regulatory and accreditation standards and collaborates with committees, leaders and colleagues to implement changes.

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time 40hrs a week, Day Shift

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in nursing required.Licensed Registered Nurse, current in the State of Iowa.A minimum of five years of professional nursing experience required.A minimum of two years of progressive clinical and leadership experiences that demonstrate success in nursing and/or expanded clinical roles, preferred.Knowledge of health center, colleague responsibilities, regulatory, accreditation and patient care standards, preferred.Demonstrates high degree of initiative, judgment and investigational skills with accuracy and detail in written and verbal communication.Demonstrates excellent communication skills with all types of health care professionals including public speaking, presentation and writing skills.Flexible and available for off-hour responsibilities.Project management skills with the ability to prioritize, manage a team and facilitate groups.
