Industrial Blaster – Coating Shop (Pipe Fabrication) - ARB, Inc.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Industrial Blaster to join our coating shop team in a pipe fabrication environment. The Industrial Blaster is responsible for surface preparation of pipes and related components by using abrasive blasting techniques to remove rust, scale, old coatings, and other contaminants to ensure proper adhesion of protective coatings. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
Operate abrasive blasting equipment to prepare pipe surfaces for coating application. Inspect pipes before blasting to identify surface defects, contamination, or coating failures. Select and adjust blasting materials, pressure, and techniques based on project specifications. Maintain proper blasting profiles according to industry and company standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE). Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on blasting equipment and nozzles. Ensure surfaces are properly cleaned and prepared before coating application. Work closely with coating technicians to ensure a seamless workflow. Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety regulations. Wear and maintain proper PPE, including respirators, blast suits, gloves, and hearing protection. Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.Qualifications & Skills
Previous experience in abrasive blasting, preferably in a coating shop or pipe fabrication setting. Knowledge of different blasting media (e.g., steel grit, garnet, aluminum oxide) and their applications. Good understanding of coating preparation standards (e.g., SSPC-SP 5, SP 10). Ability to follow all safety regulations and have knowledge of OSHA requirements Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety data sheets, and technical specifications. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods. Forklift or overhead crane operation experience is a plus. Ability to work in a physically demanding, hot, dusty and noisy environment Ability to work while wearing full protective gear, including respirators and coveralls.Compensation/Training
