GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: The role will focus on evaluating natural catastrophe models quantifying risk due to atmospheric perils such as tropical cyclones, winter storms, wildfires, and climate change in the North America region. The work entails natural catastrophe research projects to help clients get a better view of risk. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of catastrophe risk model methodologies, become proficient in the various catastrophe modeling software; and possess a comprehensive understanding of general catastrophe modeling practices and features. He/she will assist onshore catastrophe management managers in assessing catastrophe risks, carrying out sensitivity studies, and providing added analytics to clients. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : As part of the Catastrophe Management View of Risk Advisory team: + Assist onshore team with clearly defined natural catastrophe research projects that will have significant commercial impact to clients. + Help clients in the understanding of catastrophe risks, sensitivity studies, and added analytics based on catastrophe model results. + Evaluate proprietary catastrophe modeling software to understand the impact of various parameters that help quantify the risk. + Respond to brokers, clients, and reinsurers on issues and questions relating to risk analysis for natural and manmade catastrophes. + Gain exposure to a wide range of insurance and reinsurance clients. . SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED : + PhD or Master's in Atmospheric science, Climate science, Meteorology, Ocean science, or a related field. + Practical experience with research, data analysis/validation whether in a work or academic setting. + Strong foundation in mathematics and knowledge of probability and statistics. + Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as SQL, R, Python, or similar, with the ability to analyze large datasets. + Basic skills in spatial data analysis using ArcGIS/QGIS or any other software. + Exposure to visualization software like Tableau is an added advantage. + Having 1-3 years of relevant experience in research, insurance, reinsurance, or risk assessment industry with proven track record of developing and enhancing catastrophe models is an advantage. + Experience with various dynamical models (climate/weather/ocean) and processing large data sets is a plus. + Proven aptitude for collaboration within a team environment, as well as demonstrated capability to work independently, manage projects, and meet deadlines. + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. + Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English.
