JOB SUMMARY
The Institute of Materials Science (IMS) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) seeks applicants for a full-time position as a Financial Assistant 1 (UCPEA level 1) to join IMS’s professional staff team. Reporting to IMS’s Assistant Director for Finance and Administration, the incumbent will oversee various processes supporting the fiscal operations of the Institute and will keep detailed records of financial transactions within the Institute. IMS is an interdisciplinary research institute that interfaces with a large number of internal and external customers who rely on Institute services and facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Prepare, process, monitor, track, interpret, and maintain all fiscal records for multiple Institute and faculty accounts including payroll, purchasing, travel, and other disbursements to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies.
+ Provide financial support to the Institute by processing payroll, procurement, travel and out-of-pocket reimbursements, reconciliation of Procurement Card purchases, and oversight of accounts, including deposits and disbursements.
+ Analyze and verify details of financial transactions such as invoices, requisitions, payroll, and other disbursements in conjunction with University and Institute policies and procedures.
+ Maintain hardcopy and electronic files in accordance with best practices set forth by the IMS Assistant Director for Finance and Administration.
+ Provide statistical information on various expenditures and compile regular reports utilizing electronic spreadsheets and databases.
+ Resolve outstanding issues on fiscal accounts including follow-up on problems to assure timely and accurate completion of work.
+ Independently prepare correspondence related to financial issues.
+ Serve as liaison between UConn units, faculty, and external sponsors by responding to and resolving a variety of financial questions and issues.
+ Review post-award effort reports and manage the effort certification process for faculty researchers.
+ Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Associate’s degree in a related field.
+ Two to three years of related experience.
+ Effective and clear written and verbal communication skills.
+ Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
+ Familiarity with financial practices and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
+ Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably within a scientific institution/unit.
+ Experience completing payroll, purchasing, travel, and other related financial tasks.
+ Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs.
+ Demonstrated experience with UConn systems (Core-CT, Concur, etc.).
