The Import & Export professional is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the import and export activities for the Puerto Rico site, managing logistics processes, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, and maintaining efficient documentation and customs clearance procedures. This role will require close collaboration with internal teams, external partners, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of goods.
What will you be doing?
Manage and oversee the end-to-end import/export processes, including shipment planning, tracking, and delivery timelines.
Coordinate with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure smooth and timely transportation of goods.
Maintain accurate records of shipments and logistics expenses, and track cost-efficiency.
Ensure all import and export activities comply with applicable customs laws, trade regulations, and company policies.
Prepare and review shipping documents (invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, bills of lading) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Monitor changes in import/export regulations and update internal teams on compliance requirements.
Ensure accurate documentation for all shipments, including import/export licenses, permits, and certifications.
Maintain organized records of customs clearances, shipping documents, and inventory movements.
Support inventory tracking and reconciling physical stock with system data to ensure accurate record-keeping.
Work closely with the Puerto Rico site’s logistics, warehousing, and customer service teams to align import/export operations with business needs.
Coordinate with suppliers, production teams, and warehouse personnel to ensure product availability and manage lead times effectively.
Assist with inbound/outbound logistics, resolving delays and other issues.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce shipping costs, and mitigate risks associated with import/export activities.
Participate in audits and provide recommendations to strengthen compliance controls.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in international logistics and supply chain management.
What will you need to be successful?
Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in import/export, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in the medical device or healthcare industry.
Proficiency in international shipping regulations, customs clearance procedures, and trade compliance.
Strong knowledge of trade agreements, HTS classification, INCOTERMS, and free trade zones.
Familiarity with logistics management software, ERP systems (SAP or similar), and Microsoft Office suite.
Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions:
Remote work based in Colombia with flexible hours to align with the Puerto Rico site’s operational requirements.
Occasional travel may be required for training or team meetings.
