Immanuel Communities is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant - Capital Projects to work at our home office located at 1044 North 115th Street, Omaha, NE  68154.  This position is based in Omaha, Nebraska and is not a remote position.

 

The overall purpose of this job is to support the Corporate Controller in various company accounting activities primarily accounting for capital projects including ownership and autonomy associated with being involved in all phases of project accounting from beginning to end.  This role is mainly responsible for assisting and supporting project teams by reconciling and maintaining complete and accurate project accounting records and is also depended upon to provide timely and accurate financial information to project stakeholders including clients, subcontractors, vendors, the project team, and management. This role will also support accounting for fixed assets, posts various journal entries to general ledger, assist with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, completion of financial and operational analysis, and other related projects as assigned.  The responsibilities of this job may also include periodic activities such as audit support, business line support, tax return preparation and internal audit functions. 

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Capital Projects

Manages project accounting and collaborates with leaders across multiple departments throughout the life of the project.Attend detailed strategic meetings related to new projects, create and set up new projects to reflect project specifics, manage the invoice capitalization/expense workflow, and close out projects upon completion.Interacts with various stakeholders including leaders on the operational, financial, project management, legal, purchasing, and corporate teams across the entire organization.Analyzes construction records, applying principles of accounting, present and past operations, trends and costs, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred to prepare budget and monitor actual spend.Confirm receipt of all invoices by reviewing statements and inquire with subcontractors prior to month’s close, for any missing invoices.Make sure all insurance, sales and use tax rates are current and accurately reflected on all invoices for client, subcontractors, and vendors.Recommends improvements, adaptations, or revisions in the accounting system and procedures.Assists in creating procedure manuals for relevant processes.

Fixed Assets

Responsibilities may include:

Completes month-end-close process as it relates to fixed assets, reconciling construction in progress accounts and calculating accrued depreciation for assets.Manages and analyze fixed assets company wide and for project accounts.Calculates and runs monthly depreciation reports on all assets.Capitalizes project account assets no less frequently than quarterly.

Tax

Responsibilities may include:

Processes Sales & Use tax for Immanuel company wide including Foundations.Runs reports and analyzes data to complete monthly returns.Prepares and files Annual Exemption Forms and Personal Property Listing.Prepares Semi-Annual Property Tax Payments.

Other

Reviews and approves invoices for capital projects, Repairs & Maintenance, and Prepaid Expenses.Assists with financial statements through journal entry and posting to the general ledger for multiple areas.Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

 

 

Skills & Requirements

Education-

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is required.Master of Business Administration or CPA strongly preferred.Equivalent years of experience may substitute for education requirement.

Experience-

Seven (7) years of finance and/or accounting or related experience is required.Experience in a non-profit environment is desirable.Experience with large-scale financial systems preferred.Experience in a multiple business line organization is desirable.Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

 

KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).Advanced skills and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.Skilled in data and information management.Skilled in financial modeling techniques using spreadsheet software capable of adapting to the organization’s financial model. Skilled in research and analytical abilities.Ability to remain organized, collected, and effective while managing multiple workflows in a dynamic environment.Ability to understand and learn a variety of software packages.Strong mathematical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work collaboratively with individuals inside and outside the organization.Ability to assist in making decisions within ethical, moral, legal and accountability frameworks that contribute to the attainment of individual, team, department and organizations goals.Ability to use critical thinking skills to solve problems quickly, adding value beyond customer expectations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to maintain working relationships with all levels within and outside the organization.
