HVAC Technician

Purpose and role of job:

Responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment necessary for the building’s operation.  Ensures that HVAC systems are kept in good repair.  Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program for Facilities HVAC Systems.

Hours:

Monday- Friday 7am-3pm flexible

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

Performs repairs to air conditioning system as required and sees to the general maintenance of the system.Performs tests on water systems tied in with HVAC.Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on controls and related equipment; adjusts and calibrates the equipment when necessary.Responds to complaints regarding HVAC equipment and adjusts or repairs when necessary.Performs all repairs on pumps, compressors, and centrifugal equipment.Performs minor electrical and pipefitting repairs to HVAC systems.Performs refrigerant recover when necessary.Serves as electrician in repairing minor electrical malfunctions.Returns to work when a major problem with HVAC equipment is encountered on off-shifts or weekends.Tests, maintains, and evaluates equipment performance using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gauges.Performs other duties as assigned by Supervision

Education and experience requirements:

Standard knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment.Standard knowledge of various types of equipment used in building trades.Standard verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions.Ability to work in mechanically oriented situations.High School diploma or equivalent required,Two years technical or vocational school required.Three years of work experience or a combination of schooling, demonstrated skills, and experience preferred.

Work in an environment with the potential for exposure to dust, gas, and fumes

Physical Requirements:

Occasional sitting during the dayFrequent walking/standing throughout 8 hour shiftOccasional bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching overhead during shiftOccasional pushing or pulling with the legs, arms, and body throughout shiftFrequent lifting or carrying of 10 lbs or less with occasional lifting or carrying of 11-50 lbs.Occasional use of the right foot during the day.Frequent use of hands during the workday.Frequent simple/light grasping and occasional firm/strong grasping throughout the dayOccasional driving of utility truck/vehicleRequired participation in a daily pre-shift warm-up routine
