Our team is currently seeking a Human Resources and Labor Relations Director to join the team, Clarksville, TN.

The Human Resources and Labor Relations Director oversees the employee relations programs and functions. Primary responsibility for employee engagement and labor relations. The role partners with business leaders to ensure HR activities align with the organization’s mission, values and goals tracking identified key performance indicators. The Human Resources and Labor Relations Director leads a team of HR specialists, positively exemplifying organizational values.

Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

At this position level, the individual is responsible for:

HR Team Management 

Demonstrate strong, competent leadership for HR team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals.   Account for operations decisions made by direct reports.  Identify required staffing levels and partner with talent team to recruit experienced talent.   Develop high performing team of individual contributors through training, development planning, review conversations, and on-going coaching.   Conduct performance reviews and highlight areas for continue personal and career growth for direct reports.  Recommend objective compensation adjustments.    Contribute to the completion of other key initiatives as assigned. 

Business Partnership 

Develop an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, teamwork, high performance, and quality.   Lead communication and compliance with applicable HR related regulations and statutes as well as organizational procedures and policies.   Ensure that every aspect of human resources incorporates the vision, values, and culture of the organization.  Participate in leadership meetings as appropriate in order learn about business objectives, communicate HR activities, and outline solutions-oriented partnerships with the business.   Champion safety, health and environment with internal standards and compliance with external regulations.   Formulate and recommend program goals and objectives in all areas of employee relations. dentify, evaluate, and resolve human relations, employee morale, work performance, and organizational productivity concerns.   Promote pro-active talent acquisition strategies to meet business and client needs along with goal attainment and the ongoing development of new and experienced employees.  Implement employe relations activities, performance review programs, engagement surveys and retention focused strategies.  Partner with leaders for successful change management and continuous process improvement.  Deploy effective compliance and development training programs and initiatives.  Contribute to the completion of other key initiatives as assigned. 

 Labor Relations 

Represent management in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, mediation, and arbitration proceedings.   Maintains satisfactory labor-management relations through a variety of techniques such as quarterly meetings.  Participates in collective bargaining negotiations and ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements.  Investigates problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances. Provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals.  Prepares and presents required and special reports related to employee and labor relations. 

Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Human Resources or related field or equivalent work experience required.   Master’s Degree preferred.  Ten (10) years of experience in related human resources responsibilities including team management, employee development, labor relations, benefits and payroll administration.  Excellent leadership skills with ability to evaluate skill level and competencies of HR team and business leaders.  Advanced knowledge of labor relations practices and legal requirements.   Problem solving approach with ability to quickly build business relationships and partner with leaders in HR topics along with larger operational strategies.  Knowledge of HR related federal, state and local laws and regulations.   Champion of safety in the workplace, innovation, and  Strong analytical skills to identify trends, interpret and communicate data.   Ability to align HR programs and policies based on business new requirements required.  Ability to ensure HR key performance metrics are tracked and presented to various business audiences.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.  PHR/SPHR or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
