Job Sumamary
Floor Care: Provides basic and specialty cleaning services to all areas of the hospital, focusing primarily on the operations of heavy mechanical equipment (e.g., scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, wet vacuuming equipment, etc.) used in the cleaning and maintenance of hard and soft (i.e., carpet) flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways and public spaces.
Specialty Units: Work includes providing a safe care environment for patients, and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within a specialty area (surgical services/perioperative suite, cath lab, endoscopy, etc.) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff.
Other: Responsibilities may also include work in the Environmental Services Tech I classification.
Essential Job Functions:
Floor Care:
Responsible for completing as assigned, performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting. Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety. Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment; requesting assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed. Maintains accurate floor care logs and checklists. Operates all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturers safety standards and procedures. Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve HCAHPS scores as it relates to hospital cleanliness & “always quiet” Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs. Can include tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle according to function sheets and schedules, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.Recognizes the importance of how their communication is received by patients, visitors and other health care workers, staff, etc. Recognizes their role as part of the larger organization and models the mission statement through interaction with patients, family, visitors and other facility staff.Specialty Units:
Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment. Areas include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health and Burn Unit. Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.Accountable for accurately maintaining all appropriate logs and check lists/sheets currentResponsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfecting requirements specific to highly sensitive environments. Demonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidence based recommendations in accordance with the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professional in Infection Control (APIC) and Association for perioperative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.Other:
Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics. Maintains supplies and equipment by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA) Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Practices critical thinking skills to include prioritization of duties and immediate needs/requests (Stat cleans)Demonstrates personal accountabilityIdentify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolvedDemonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements.
