Summary The Environmental Management Services at the Bronx VAMC, NY is recruiting for two (2) Housekeeping Aid Supervisors. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules. Responsibilities The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project.by project basis Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work. schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. This position is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities. The position trains staff and ensure that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Due to the constant change in the type of patients, provides proper on-the-job training to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished. The position provides special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies. The position schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives. The position keeps the supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. The position may be assigned to conduct in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regards to their observations. The position ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues. The position may supervise the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate. The position approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. The position makes formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct. The position is responsible for the coordination of activities with other services, including rearranging work schedules during remodeling, painting and relocation of offices, clinics or patient wards and other duties which help coordinate moves. The position routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner. The position is responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment. Provides documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work. The position is responsible for the removal of furniture in need of repair and/or replacement along with the initiation of an electronic work request. The position is responsible for the review of procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision. The position performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy. Receives general supervision and instructions from the supervisor. The position works independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary. The position ensures time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper. The position keeps immediate supervisor apprised of actual or potential problems and recommends remedial corrective actions. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical demands of the position are those normally required of a housekeeping aid such as some heavy lifting (equipment and materials), and movement of furniture, often requiring stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting are required. Arduous physical effort is also required in the performance of manual tasks such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment, over extended periods of time when providing training to employees etc. Incumbent works in well ventilated areas and may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in the various buildings. When occasionally performing cleaning tasks, moderate effort is expended.
